There was a LOT of colour at the SAG Awards. Thank goodness. It made things so much more interesting than the Golden Globes red carpet.
First, I'll let you take in....this.
I don't understand what Kevin McHale was going for here, but I don't think he quite got it. It looks like Dracula Couture. He looks like he's thinking about biting someone.

2013 Golden Globes Fashion - Hits and Misses
Award season is upon us! I felt like there weren't as many TV stars at the Golden Globes this year. Maybe that's because Glee wasn't nominated for anything, so there weren't forty eight bright young things parading down the red carpet. I don't know.
What I do know is that I really, really hope this photo was capturing Ben Affleck about to breakdance in an attempt to distract everyone from the fact that he and his wife, Jennifer Garner, ACTUALLY WALKED THE RED CARPET TOGETHER.

While Ben gets his groove on, let's jump straight into the fashion, shall we?

Oscars 2012 Fashion Hits and Misses
Well. After lacklustre fashion at the Golden Globes, I am quite pleased with the range of colour and style on the red carpet. Which is obviously why they have the Oscars: to please me, of course.
So. Let's check out the fashion!
But first please enjoy Jean Dujardin making a funny face.

2012 SAG Awards - Fashion Hits and Misses
I did not realise how close the SAG Awards were to the Golden Globes, so thank goodness Twitter alerted me to the red carpet arrivals that had just started. Otherwise I would totally have forgotten to pour over the images last night.
I suspect Rose Byrne may also want to forget everything about this look.

Rose, the 1970s called. Even they don’t want this look back.
I bet Anna Wintour is fuming and throwing three thousand dollar couch cushions around in her office at Vogue because of Rose’s copycat bob.

Golden Globes Fashion Hits and Misses
Yay, award season is here! And what better way to kick off the Boredom Abounds By Julia fashion hits and misses posts with the award ceremony where celebrities get drunk on camera. Woot!
She really adds to the formality of the occasion with her "Bitch, please" expression, no?
(That being said, she does look FIERCE. I love the pops of red)

2011 ARIA Awards Fashion - Hits and Misses
Did anyone even bother to watch the ARIAs the whole way through? I sure didn't. But I obsessively checked and refreshed the red carpet photos a LOT because if there's one thing I know, it's that music award shows bring the crazy fashion out. This year didn't disappoint.
I'm willing to bet 99% of the people in the crowds watching the arrivals didn't realise this was actor Noah Taylor and instead thought it was some guy dressed as a homeless man from the 1970s.

Wedding outfit 1
We have a few weddings coming up over November/December and I was on Polyvore recently looking for inspiration. I probably won't end up wearing anything remotely like this, but I think this dress is perfect for this in-bewteen weather we're having at the moment in Melbourne! And the pop of orange is pretty much all you need to make a splash - a few neutral and gold accessories and you're done.
Although I must ponder why a shimmery gold eyeshadow has a sample colour shown that is purple, but whatever.

Spring Wardrobe Number Three
Spring Wardrobe Number Three by boredomaboundsbyjulia
I had a lot of fun putting this together. I was imagining a Spring afternoon tea or garden party when jeans just won't do, but you don't want to be the most dressed up gal in the room either.
I actually came really close to buying this dress from Dorothy Perkins a couple of months ago, but ended up with something else. However, I'm just so drawn to the cotton candy colour and the simple white stripes. Paired with a cardi and some simple ballet flats and this outfit will make you look chic and cheerful, with the pink of the sundress popping out.
I kept the make up simple, because the colour of the dress is the show stopper in this ensemble, and a nice neutral bag with sunglasses with tinted frames complete the look. And as always, a girl can never go wrong with a pair of pearl earrings.

2011 Emmy Award Fashion Hits and Misses
Woo, the Emmy Awards! I always think of it as the start of award season, although it's kind of all on its own in September, and it feels like ages until the SAGs, Golden Globes and Oscars. Maybe it's because it means the year is on its way to coming to a close, so before you know it we'll be anticipating the February/March awards.
Anyway, let's get stuck into it.
It gets better than this, I promise. Mostly.

Spring Wardrobe Number Two
Spring Wardrobe Number Two by boredomaboundsbyjulia
This is my ideal work wardrobe for Spring. I love capri pants with a bright top, and the black boyfriend jacket gives it a corporate look without being too unflaterring for a woman's shape. Simple accessories do the trick, and subtle make up with a hint of plum in the eyeshadow would look fabulous with this ensemble.
FYI, I love that bag. And those shoes - I never wear super high heels to work, but wedges are infinitely more comfortable than stilettos and would give me a little bit of height to set off the shorter capri pants. Retro sunglasses are obligatory, obviously.

Polyvore - Spring Wardrobe Number One
Spring Wardrobe Number One by boredomaboundsbyjulia
So, I signed up to Polyvore. I thought it would be a good way to get wardrobe ideas without having to actually go to the shops, and then I realised I could just post my mood boards here to see what you all think. It's a win/win!
Anyhoo, this is my first attempt - Spring is in the air, and while the days aren't always warm, I'm looking forward to updating my wardrobe a little bit. This cardigan costs way more than I would ever pay, but I just love the floral Spring feel. Loafers are my new obsession, as you know, and the accessories are a nice blend of neutral tones.
I could easily wear this outfit at work or on the weekends, it has a nice, seamlessly classic feel to it.

Boredom Abounds Loves: Vintage
It's no secret that I love all things vintage. While I don't have a house full of retro Danish furniture or a cupboard full of vintage fur coats, I do appreciate the aesthetic of style from eras gone by. I love vintage furniture, old music, retro homewares and so on. But what I really love to look at is vintage clothing. Specifically women's styles from the 1940s, 50s and 60s. It was a time when women's clothes were just SO feminine. Curves were celebrated and fabric was so bright and patterned and lush with all the petticoats and all the crazy underwears foofing it out.
Vintageous
So here are a few of my favourite vintage websites for inspiration and drool-worthy outfits.
Vintageous
So here are a few of my favourite vintage websites for inspiration and drool-worthy outfits.
This is REAL vintage stuff. They must trawl estate sales, second hand shops and have clients sell directly to them like nobody's business to get stuff like this:
Can't you see Betty Draper and Joan Holloway wearing these? So gorgeous. I've never purchased from the website (since I suspect my build is somewhat larger than the women who wore these dresses in the 50s and 60s). Although I wonder how easy it would be to alter the dresses.....I think the site is a really great resource for bridal parties - if you want your bridesmaids to have different looks and a bit of retro flair, this would be perfect!
Posh Girl Vintage
This is another site with real vintage wares. The site layout is a bit more contemporary than Vintageous and the clothes are so lovely. I love that they have so many different categories of clothing. I'm loving these three items at the moment:
But honestly, I could browse there for hours. The handbags in particular are extremely chic and there are some awesome hats that could really finish off an outfit nicely in Winter. Whenever I look at this site I do some serious outfit daydreaming.
Shabby Apple
Okay, people. This has been my absolute FAVOURITE online clothing website for well over a year now. Shabby Apple specialises in creating stylish, modest clothes for contemporary women that have a definite vintage feel. It's a US website, but they ship internationally, and while the shipping isn't super cheap, the cost of a dress plus shipping with the dollar so good right now and you'll be paying basically what you'd be paying for a dress from shops like Portmans, Witchery, etc.
I mean, take a look at these:
Beautiful, right? The thing I love about Shabby Apple is that their collections all have a theme - Manhattan, Oh La La, Amalfi Coast and so on. I'd actually love to see them expand their swimwear range a bit more, because retro styled bathers offer SO much more coverage than modern stuff. I find their designs so classic - the style, the cut, the colours, yet they all have a modern twist to them that makes me surprised that more shops don't offer clothes like this.
One Australian blog you simply have to check out is Esme and the Laneway, which chronicles the very vintage lifestyle of a gorgeous Londoner who now calls Melbourne home. Esme's style is completely retro, from clothing to make up to her lovely interior design. Seeing a blog like this has given me heaps of ideas on how to incorporate vintage touches to every part of life. It's simply just a lovely blog!
So tell me, what's you favourite vintage website (clothes, homewares, furniture, whatever)?

2011 Logie Awards Fashion Update
Well, the Logies came and went and I admit I didn't watch one second of it. I find it to be a total snooze fest. But usually the fashion is either really nice or really bad. This year, I found it to be relatively blah.
Still, let's hand out some fashion awards, shall we?
Ash Williams can help us, since he has so much bronzer on his face he actually LOOKS like a Logie. BTW, is it just me, or does everyone else find him totally unappealing in every single way?

Oscars 2011 Fashion Round Up
Where was all the crazy this year? I have to hand it to the ladies of Hollywood - they mostly pulled it off this year in the fashion stakes. But there were a few WTF moments on the red carpet, so let's take a look.
"Uh, Anne.....Annie, my leeeetle principessa! I am filled with amore for you too, darrrrrlink, but stop trying to kiss my cheek. My tan will smudge. SMUDGE I TEEEEELL YOU! Step away from me, PRONTO! Look, look over there is Mary Hart - can you believe she's 60? Please, go. Go and ask her what de secret is, please darlink."

2011 Grammy Awards Fashion Round Up
I can't really call this a "highlights" post because the Grammys fashion was CRACKED OUT. Like, a million times more than last year, where people attempted to maintain some level of normalcy. So, without further ado, let's check out what people "wore" on the night.

SAG Awards 2011 - Fashion Round Up
Wow, people totally Brought It to the SAGs this year, I'm impressed! Even Helena Bonham Carter looked relatively normal - I mean, her shoes actually matched. What is this world coming to? Although it does make my life a bit more difficult because it's harder to snark on people when they're dressed perfectly, but I'll do my best to infuse this post with appropriate levels of snark and praise.
See what I mean?

Golden Globes 2011 Fashion Round Up
AKA The Year of Beige.
Hoo boy, a LOT of women wore beige/neutral/pale shades this year. Most of the shades were incredibly blah and washed them out. Some people did it properly. Most did not. I wasn't that enamoured with most of the beige, so I'm going to review what caught my eye, because really, what else matters?
Ugh, that sounded assy. Sorry.
Anyway, here we go!

Fashion watch - Kate Middleton
When the royal engagement was announced last week, a reader asked me if I would be doing an entry about Ms. Middleton's style over the past few years. To be honest, it hadn't really crossed my mind, because I am in no way, shape or form an avid "royal watcher."
Cute sundresses, flirty skirts and chic shift dresses, usually accompanied by a cardigan or a jacket and a co-ordinated handbag seem to Kate's fashion go-to for casual events. She's not afraid of colour, but she also knows not to overdo it with heavy patterns or garish shades.
Although I think this may be my favourite casual chic look. There's something about black and pale blue combos that look so soft, but the beret and the scarf create such a stylish Parisien-chic look. It's a classic Winter look and she does it so effortlessly. Note to self: buy a beret.

Obviously as a royal family member, Kate is invited to bucketloads of weddings and official events where the attire is much, MUCH dressier than your average backyard barbecue. She knows what styles suit her body type (pencil skirt suit or flowy tea length gowns), but it's the accessories that really complete her ensembles. A pretty floral coat, like the purple one above, and a statement fascinator tipped at exactly the right angle make her stand out in the crowd, looking dignified and feminine. She's also lucky enough to be one of those girls whoo looks like she just casually threw the outift together half an hour before leaving the house, which is a feat not many of us can carry off. The key to that is to look comfortable in what you're wearing, and Kate never looks anything less than cool, calm and collected, which only adds to her star style factor.
Finally: The real reason we know she's ready to be a royal

Girlfriend knows how to rock a hat.
Enough said.
Edited to add: The engagement dress
How could I have forgotten to add this in? My brain, it is elsewhere this week.
I love this dress. LOVE IT. Besides the fact that they co-ordinated with each other and she co-ordinated with her engagement ring, it's just a gorgeous, flattering style. The ruching across the bodice makes her waist seem teeny tiny, while the loose skirt adds an element of relaxed informality to the event. And I love that it's long sleeved. It can be so hard to find formal Winter dresses at the best of times, so I like that she's not wearing a short sleeved gown with a jacket over the top. It's no wonder the Issa London dress sold out in about eighteen seconds right after the press conference aired.
Also, I need her shiny, shiny, perfectly tousled hair. Now. Pin It
But then I realised that whenever I've seen photos of Kate Middleton, I've admired her outfit - she's always so elegant and so well put together, so I thought why not?
And here we are. A look at the future Queen's (or whatever her title will be once Williams ascends to the throne) fashion.
First up: Casual chic
Cute sundresses, flirty skirts and chic shift dresses, usually accompanied by a cardigan or a jacket and a co-ordinated handbag seem to Kate's fashion go-to for casual events. She's not afraid of colour, but she also knows not to overdo it with heavy patterns or garish shades.
Even at a day out at the races, or an RAF event for William, Kate dresses down appropriately to suit the occasion, while still looking feminine. I just love the preppy cowgirl look she's sporting above on the right. The addition of the silver jewelry dresses up the outfit, but she still looks at home meandering across fields. Oh, and the white coat above on the left? To die for. Every girl needs a white coat in her wardrobe for Winter. It's so crisp and clean, and it goes with practically anything. Which reminds me, I do need to get mine dry cleaned...
Although I think this may be my favourite casual chic look. There's something about black and pale blue combos that look so soft, but the beret and the scarf create such a stylish Parisien-chic look. It's a classic Winter look and she does it so effortlessly. Note to self: buy a beret.
Next up: Striking Elegance

Boredom Abounds Wears
Finally! The warm weather has reached dreary Melbourne, so it's time to break out the sundresses! This is the newly purchased dress I'm wearing today:
Diana Ferrari Halle Flutter Sleeve Dress - $149.95
I love the Diana Ferrari range this year - so versatile, affordable and they stock sizes for real women.
Although I have paired it with a black cardi and black peep toe flats, and I black string of beads, I kind of wish I had the matching peach cardi to go with it instead. The dress is jersey fabric, lined, and unbelievably comfortable!
Oh, and the sleeves are handy for jiggly, upper-arm issues.
Just sayin'.
