The Time Has Come - An important announcement

Well.

The time has come. For the closing of one door, and the opening of another.

I started this blog in 2009, and, as the name suggests, it came out of the place of boredom. I was feeling unsatisfied with my career, and wanted a place to be creative that was just mine, but that was also a way to communicate with people who were interested in the things I was interested in – books, movies, TV, other stuff. And hence, Boredom Abounds By Julia was born.

Since starting the blog in 2009, I’ve gotten married, and last year we had our first child. It’s been the most amazing journey of my life, full of ups and downs (but mostly ups!), but unfortunately my blog has suffered. I love blogging. I love writing, I love finding the humour in things, I love being honest with my opinions, and I love hearing what you (yes, you!) think about what I write, good or bad. I have tried hard not to constantly sit in front of a screen while my husband and child potter around in the background. I want to be a present wife and mother, and combining that with returning to work part-time, and juggling motherhood and marriage meant that my blog has been neglected quite a bit.

But as I find my feet and settle into my new routine as a working mother, I’m trying to find some time to myself again, that time that I would use to write my blog. However, I’m no longer bored. Far from it! Working and having an eighteen month old toddler means I rarely have down time. Not because I’m constantly full to the brim of motherhood duties. More because I have a lot I want to achieve and I have a lot of hobbies, on top of raising a child and being a wife. So I have a to-do list as long as my arm, full of those household jobs that are always there, but also full of things I want to learn and experiment with and achieve for myself.

And so boredom no longer abounds. I have decided to bring Boredom Abounds By Julia to a close, and I want to thank my readers for their support and for coming here and reading the things I had to say for the past three and a half years. It has been greatly appreciated!

However, as I said, I do still love to write, and I do love the blogging medium. I have always hoped to turn my writing into something bigger than just a personal blog – what that is I’m not sure of yet. But I do know that I needed to stop and change direction. And so I’m launching a new website – still a blog, but with a fresh look, and a new location. Some things will be the same, some things will be new. There will be some of the same sort of posts, as well as shorter ones, more suited to publishing on a more frequent schedule (when my schedule allows for it), but the most important thing is that it will remain my voice.

Although I am a mother, I am not a ‘mommyblogger.’ My husband and child are part of my private life and I won’t be writing specifically about them or posting photos of them over at my new website. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, it’s just not my kind of thing. My new blog will remain an entertainment and lifestyle blog over and above anything else, and I really hope you’ll come over and have a look around.

So thank you for reading, today and all the days you came by to relieve the boredom!

And now I’d love for you to come and say hello at Chic To Do - a blog about getting stuff done with style.

Christmas Cheer

Christmas Cheer

This is what I would wear if we had a super fancy Christmas party to attend. You know, the kind you see in movies where everyone is dressed to the nines and sipping from retro champagne glasses and there are fires roaring and snow falling.

Wedding outfit 1

Wedding outfit 3

We have a few weddings coming up over November/December and I was on Polyvore recently looking for inspiration. I probably won't end up wearing anything remotely like this, but I think this dress is perfect for this in-bewteen weather we're having at the moment in Melbourne! And the pop of orange is pretty much all you need to make a splash - a few neutral and gold accessories and you're done.

Although I must ponder why a shimmery gold eyeshadow has a sample colour shown that is purple, but whatever.

Spring Wardrobe Number Three

Spring Wardrobe Number Three

Spring Wardrobe Number Three by boredomaboundsbyjulia

I had a lot of fun putting this together. I was imagining a Spring afternoon tea or garden party when jeans just won't do, but you don't want to be the most dressed up gal in the room either.

I actually came really close to buying this dress from Dorothy Perkins a couple of months ago, but ended up with something else. However, I'm just so drawn to the cotton candy colour and the simple white stripes. Paired with a cardi and some simple ballet flats and this outfit will make you look chic and cheerful, with the pink of the sundress popping out.

I kept the make up simple, because the colour of the dress is the show stopper in this ensemble, and a nice neutral bag with sunglasses with tinted frames complete the look. And as always, a girl can never go wrong with a pair of pearl earrings.

Spring Wardrobe Number Two

Spring Wardrobe Number Two

Spring Wardrobe Number Two by boredomaboundsbyjulia

This is my ideal work wardrobe for Spring. I love capri pants with a bright top, and the black boyfriend jacket gives it a corporate look without being too unflaterring for a woman's shape. Simple accessories do the trick, and subtle make up with a hint of plum in the eyeshadow would look fabulous with this ensemble.

FYI, I love that bag. And those shoes - I never wear super high heels to work, but wedges are infinitely more comfortable than stilettos and would give me a little bit of height to set off the shorter capri pants. Retro sunglasses are obligatory, obviously.

Polyvore - Spring Wardrobe Number One

Spring Wardrobe Number One

Spring Wardrobe Number One by boredomaboundsbyjulia

So, I signed up to Polyvore. I thought it would be a good way to get wardrobe ideas without having to actually go to the shops, and then I realised I could just post my mood boards here to see what you all think. It's a win/win!

Anyhoo, this is my first attempt - Spring is in the air, and while the days aren't always warm, I'm looking forward to updating my wardrobe a little bit. This cardigan costs way more than I would ever pay, but I just love the floral Spring feel. Loafers are my new obsession, as you know, and the accessories are a nice blend of neutral tones.

I could easily wear this outfit at work or on the weekends, it has a nice, seamlessly classic feel to it.

Welcome!

Thanks to the blog conference I attended on the weekend, I've had a bunch of new Twitter followers and some new Facebook fans join the Boredom Abounds ranks. So, if you're new to my blog, or if you just want a trip down memory lane, here are some of my past posts to help you get an idea of what goes on around here.

In case you're interested, you can read a little bit about me here.

Enjoy!

1. I love awards shows, and I especially love award show fashion. So , whenever there's a big awards show I love to feature the red carpet fashion.

2. I enjoy cooking and try to feature it from time to time, with varying degrees of success. I can't wait to get a better camera soon to improve my food photography by about one billion degrees.

3. I love the TV show Glee. I fully acknowledge that the storylines and characters are often totally inconsistent and kind of stupid, but gosh darn it, I love me some crackalicious cover music! So I do a Glee highlights post each week when it's airing on TV here.

4. I love to read, and do a book review every couple of months. In fact, I'll be posting another one tomorrow, so make sure to check back then!

5. I also review music every once in a while, which is always fun. I love having a new CD on rotation in my car!

There are also Fun Friday Links posted every Friday morning to help your workday go faster before the weekend, a smattering of photos of things I've bought, movie reviews and giveaways a couple of times a year, so do stop by each week to see what's going on!

You can follow me on Twitter here, and Like my Facebook fan page here to stay up to date with all the latest blog posts!

As always, thanks for reading! Pin It
