Lorde is a 17 year old girl from New Zealand. I first heard this about a month or so ago on the radio, and I love it. Her voice reminds me a bit of Natasha Bedingfield, and this song is ridiculously good.

Monday Morning Melody - Rihanna

Hello! I've been AWOL lately. My daughter was sick for nearly three weeks, then I caught it and was sick for two weeks, then we had her FIRST BIRTHDAY, and now here we are. So, it's a Monday, which is a good a time as any to kickstart things again with a Monday Morning Melody.

Disclaimer: I am not a Rihanna fan. When I think of her, the term "oversaturation" comes to mind, and if I hear her on the radio I usually change the station within about a second. But her new single, Stay is different. It's heartbreaking and full of angst, but there's something in her voice that just nails the song.

Monday Morning Melody - The Lennings

I know, it sounds like The Lemmings, that computer game. But it's not. The Lennings are an American indie folk band and I hadn't heard of them until I caught up on season 3 of Parenthood this past week.  

Unfortunately, I can't embed the video here, but click and take a listen. It took me a couple of minutes to realise it was a really lovely acoustic cover of You're the One That I Want from Grease. 

Seriously, how beautiful is it? It sounds like a completely different song, and I just love it.


I have no idea why the clip is of a saucepan on the stove and making a cup of tea. Maybe that's why they don't want people to embed the video....Although, cheapest music video ever?

Monday Morning Melody - Snow Patrol

In honour of St. Patrick's day yesterday, here is a completely gorgeous song from my favourite Irish band, Snow Patrol. I've seen them live three times, which, FYI, is SO worth it, but they've never played this song. It's called You Could Be Happy, and it's the most beautiful break up song, and probably one of my favourite songs from them.


The music box chimes are the loveliest touch, and Gary Lighbody's lyrics are, as usual, perfect. Pin It

Monday Morning Melody - Of Monsters and Men

Two weeks ago, my Monday Morning Melody was The Lumineers' Ho Hey, and when I first heard it on the radio, I kept thinking it was this song: Little Talks by of Monsters and Men.


They sound similar, but not really. But for some reason I though they were the same song for about a month. Anyway, I love them both, so I wanted to feature Of Monsters and Men this week. Your thoughts? Pin It

Monday Morning Melody - Ted Hawkins

During the day, I have the radio on ABC 774, just so there's a bit of noise happening while my daughter sleeps. One day I heard the start of this song, and the singer's husky voice instantly grabbed my attention. It's the late singer Ted Hawkins, who was from Mississippi. He had an interesting and troubled life, from what I've read online, but this song is just so simple and lovely. I don't know if it's his song, or he's doing a cover, but regardless, I think it's beautiful.

I love this song. It's Ho Hey by The Lumineers. It's just so damn catchy. Although every time I hear it I keep thinking it's that Of Monsters and Men song. You know that one I'm talking about.

Monday Morning Melody - Saskwatch

Wow, it's February already! I missed Friday links last week because we were away in SA at a wedding, but it's a new week, and it's a Monday, so that means it's time for a melody!

I heard this last week n Triple J and thought the singer's voice, and the melody, sounded a lot like girl bands from the Motown era. It's a 9 piece Melbourne band called Saskwatch, and it's super fun - this tune is called Your Love.

ARG! Internet issues mean I haven't been able to get online until just now. This is distressing because I haven't been able to post this song, and because I haven't been able to look at the SAG Award fashion!

So here - listen to this super cute song from Meiko, which I first heard late last year. It's boppy and sweet.

I don't know what people think about OneRepublic these days, but I heard their song, Good Life, on the radio a while ago and really liked it.




It's just a nice song. Good background music, I think. A nice way to start your Monday. Pin It

This is so not a song I would normally enjoy, but I keep hearing it in the car on the radio and then it's stuck in my head for the rest of the day. It's I Don't Care by Icona Pop (ft. Charli XCX), and I bet if you have a listen, you will find it oddly addictive.

Monday Morning Melody - LP

This is another song I heard on a Foxtel channel promo. I can't remember which channel it's for - possibly one of the movie channels? Anyway, it just grabbed me. Instantly. I don't know much about the artist, LP, but the song is called Into the Wild.

 

The chorus makes me think of those days in Summer where everything is gorgeous and sunny and you feel like the days can go on and on forever. Like running gracefully through a field of long grass with my hair flowing behind me, in bare feet, in the late Summer sunshine (not that I've ever done that because I don't look very graceful when I do decide to run - I huff and puff like I'm about to keel over and my hair gets plastered to my head with sweat, etc, etc).

We watch a bit of TV on the Lifestyle Channel, and their promo at the moment features this happy, upbeat song from Ben Cocks called Your Firefly.



It's so catchy and sweet. The lyrics are simple and cute, and whenever I hear it, I can't stop humming it! Have a listen. I guarantee your day will be a lot brighter afterwards. Pin It

Monday Morning Melody - Scala & kolacny Brothers

Homeland is starting up again soon here and I keep seeing the promo for it. There is a lovely choral version of The Police's Every Breath You Take playing over it and makes the whole promo look so intense and intriguing. So of course I had to Google the song and this is it:



Scala & Kolacny Brothers is a Belgian women's choir and they do cover versions of popular songs from bands like Garbage, Nirvana, Kings of Leon, Kylie Minogue, and so on. Have a listen to this, then head over to YouTube to listen to some more. It's just beautiful music. Pin It

Resurfacing to post my first Monday Morning Melody in aaaages! I heard this in the car the other day and thought it was Mumford & Sons at first. But it's actually a guy named Anton Frank and it's called Letting Go.

It's a nice song. But it's his voice and the lyrics that really caught my attention.
